Marie Sanders Hogan Obituary
Marie Sanders Hogan, 86, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away peacefully Thursday, March 3, 2016 at her home in Rose.
She was born March, 5, 1929 in Blackfoot, Idaho, the first of 3 children, to Walter and Irene Petersen. She attended school in Blackfoot, graduating from Blackfoot High School. She continued her education receiving her teaching certificate from Albion Teacher's Academy. She taught elementary school for 5 years in Idaho Falls. In 1953 she met and married Max Sanders. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. They spent most of their married life in Twin Falls, Idaho where they raised their 5 children. In 1965 they moved back to Blackfoot to be near Marie's parents and sisters. In 1966 Max passed away.
Marie challenged herself and returned to Idaho State University to complete her education. She graduated in 1972 with a degree in elementary education. She taught for 23 years at Elmwood Elementary School, where she touched many lives.
On October 26, 1991 Marie married Ray Hogan. They lived for 10 years in Groveland and then moved to Rose where they have spent the last 15 years.
Marie loved crafts, sewing, quilting, puzzles and flowers. She and Ray loved fishing, traveling and visiting family. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Hogan; children, Karla (Tod) Spencer, St. Anthony, Idaho, Christina (Mark) Hardman, Houston, Texas, Suzette (Brooks) Udall, Thatcher, Arizona, Denise (Thorpe) Pehrson, Overland Park, Kansas; step-children, Kevin (Pam) Hogan, Seattle, Washington, Jan Hogan, Salt Lake City, Utah; sister Vera Taylor, 20 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, son, Greg Sanders, her parents, a sister, Beulah Hogan and a grandson, Tony Stevens.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot. The family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 and again for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at: www.hawkerfuneralhome.com.
