Melvin Clarence Davis Obituary
Melvin Clarence Davis, 87, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Oct. 12, 2016 at his home.
He was born Feb. 13, 1929 in Pocatello, Idaho the son of Clarence H. Davis and Martha Mary Nolte Davis. His family moved to Salmon when he was fourteen years old.
He earned his GED from University of Southern Idaho in Albion. He attended Idaho State University where he received his Bachelors degree in Business Management. He attended Credit Union Management of University of Wisconsin, and earned credits at the University of Montana and Colorado State.
On May 22, 1949, he married Glena Alfaretta Wornek in Salmon, Idaho.
Melvin served in the US Army, 24th Mechanized Infantry Cavalry during WWII in Japan
He was a member of the Methodist church and served on various committees.
Melvin was a lifetime member of the DAV, NRA, Lions, Kappa Phi Kappa, Methodist Men, Cedar Hills Gun Club, Caribou Gold Prospectors, Gold Prospectors of America, Lost Dutchman Mining Association.
He was one of the original founders of Blackfoot Teachers Credit Union and was its treasurer and manager for 28 years. It is now part of Idaho State University Credit Union. He was also involved with the Eastern Idaho Chapter of the Idaho Credit Union League and the Idaho Credit Union League. Melvin served 20 years on AARP tax volunteer.
Melvin worked as a teacher for 31-plus years. He taught in Blackfoot School District, Mackay, Bancroft and Pocatello. He worked for the State of Idaho Agriculture Department surveying grain fields.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, prospecting, lapidary and jewelry-making.
He is survived by his wife, Glena of Blackfoot; daughters, Sherrie Diann Kunze, of Blackfoot and Katharine Marie Jorgensen, of Pocatello, eight grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dalene Davis, his parents, three sisters and one brother.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. October 29, 2016 at the Jason Lee Memorial Methodist Church with Reverend Patti Money.
