Merle East Jackman Obituary
Merle East Jackman, 88, of Blackfoot, passed away July 16, 2017, surrounded by her family at her home. 
She was born Feb. 9, 1929 in Hobart, Oklahoma to James Floyd East and Linnie Ann Holly. 
From the time she was young until she graduated from high school, she and her family traveled west from Oklahoma across the southern states settling in California. 
Her father helped construct Route 66 during this time.
She married the love of her life, Donald Byron Jackman, on Oct. 28, 1951, in Compton, Calif. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints, on Aug. 28, 1965.
She loved her family most. She also loved reading, sewing, making quilts, and was very active in the LDS Church. She served in many positions, including Stake Relief Society President and Gospel Doctrine teacher.
She is survived by her dearly loved children, Donna McBride (Ed) of Pingree, Teri Richman (Larry) of Salt Lake City, and David Jackman (Kim) of Blackfoot. 
She has 13 grandchildren and 26.5 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother James East, and her beloved husband.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20 at the Rose LDS Chapel, 403 N. 150 W. in Blackfoot.
The family will meet with friends on Wednesday evening, July 19 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave. and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
