Val Dean Nielsen Obituary
Val Dean Nielsen, 77, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family and children.
He was born Feb. 27, 1940 in Kimball, Idaho the son of Leslie Moroni Nielsen and Carrie Louisa Landon Nielsen.
Val lived most of his young life in the Kimball area and his adult life in the Blackfoot area. He graduated from Firth High School.
He married Patricia "Patsy" Lee Olson in the Spring of 1959 and to this union three children were born and they were later divorced. On Dec. 4, 1965, he married Barbara Sue Robinson in Homedale, New Jersey.
He served in the Army at Fort Malmoth, New Jersey; Fort Lewis, Washington and Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
Val Dean worked at American Linen for a total of 47 years, only taking a two year break when he was drafted in the service.
He was also an instrument rated pilot instructor with four ratings which allowed him to share his love of flying with others.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Val Dean was very active and enjoyed flying, skydiving, camping, fishing, hunting, genealogy, studying the scriptures, and sports.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sue Nielsen of Blackfoot; children, Kenneth Dean Nielsen of Groveland, Richard Lee "Rick" Nielsen of Rigby, Rocky Joel Jorgensen of Blackfoot, Russell Dean Nielsen of Boise, Misty Sue Nielsen of Boise, Leslie DaNene Nielsen of Blackfoot; sisters, Alta Faye Hansen of Mackay and Lelah Cameron of Provo, Utah; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie Moroni Nielsen and Carrie Louisa Landon Nielsen Jolley; siblings, Lester Nielsen, Erma Nielsen Scott, and Don Nielsen; daughter, Valerie Gay Nielsen; and an infant son.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18 at the Blackfoot South Stake Center, 900 Riverton Road in Blackfoot.
The family will greet friends and family from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17 at the Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot and again one hour prior to the services at the Blackfoot South Stake Center. Interment and military honors will be held at the Basalt Cemetery.
