Veda Shiosaki Obituary
Veda Gay "Vickie" Phipps Shiosaki was born on September 6, 1946, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Hazel Mae Booth and Herman Henry Phipps. She was the second of three children with an older sister, Carol, and younger brother, Oliver.
Vickie graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1964. She married Dennis Wayne Egbert in 1965, and had two children: Denise and Brian. She later divorced Dennis and married Jun Shiosaki in 1969; together, they had Lisa.
Vickie was a woman of many talents. She enjoyed various crafts: crocheting, needle point, sewing and quilting. She enjoyed gardening and was a master at canning. She certified as a professional cake decorator and enjoyed creating birthday and wedding masterpieces. Vickie also loved animals. Throughout the years she raised dogs, cats, ferrets, and horses. Vickie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active in the scouting program. She especially enjoyed genealogy and dedicated years of service to the Family History Center where she spent countless hours helping others and researching her own family history.
Vickie worked as a waitress for the Cathay Café where she met Jun. After their wedding, she dedicated many years to being a stay at home but later returned to work to support her children's various hobbies. She waitressed at the Wagon Wheel and worked as a night clerk at the Best Western. She worked in accounting at Nonpareil until she was diagnosed with cancer in 1984. She went through treatment at the University of Utah. Vickie fought valiantly and struggled with numerous health problems from the cancer for the rest of her life.
Vickie moved to The Willows in 2013 where she made many friends and loved all of the activities offered there.
She is survived by her brother, Oliver Phipps of Twin Falls; her daughter, Denise Reese of Shelley; her son, Brian (Dana) Shiosaki of Hillsboro, OR; her daughter, Lisa (Garth) Olsen of Idaho Falls; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Carol; and her husband, Jun.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at the Blackfoot South Stake 14th Ward, 1000 Riverton Road. Family will meet with friends and relatives from 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 2, 2017 at Hawker Funeral Home and again for one hour prior to the service at the church.
