Vern Fackrell Obituary
Vern Reese Fackrell, 89
Vern Reese Fackrell, 89, of Blackfoot, Idaho, returned to his heavenly home September 3, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Vern was born October 7, 1925, in Thomas, Idaho to Parley Proctor and Rachel Reese Fackrell. He was born a twin. His brother, Von Reese Fackrell, preceded him in death at age 7. Vern had 3 brothers and 3 sisters, 7 half-brothers and 3-half sisters. Only he and 2 sisters and 4 half brothers survived passed childhood. He grew up and lived most of his life in the Blackfoot area. He attended Wilson Elementary and Blackfoot secondary schools.

Vern met his sweetheart, Verla Wright, at the roller-skating rink in Blackfoot and they married on October 18, 1944, in Dillon, Montana. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 18, 1961. They celebrated their 70th anniversary last October. Vern and Verla have 5 children, 4 daughters and one son.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in the Elder's Quorum presidency, the Sunday School organization, was counselor in the bishopric of Blackfoot Fifth ward for several years, High Priest Quorum teacher and Quorum leader, ward clerk and also stake clerk in the Blackfoot Stake. Vern loved missionary work and served as a stake missionary. He also served as a temple worker in the Idaho Falls Temple. He loved serving in any capacity in which he was asked to serve. He was a very committed Home Teacher.

Vern worked in several occupations throughout his life. He and his wife, Verla, owned and ran "The Barrel Drive-In" and "Vern and Verla's Café" in Blackfoot for several years. They later sold both businesses and Vern gained employment with Safeway Foods as Produce Manager until he and Verla went to work for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as custodians of the Blackfoot Stake Center. The couple loved being together in work and play.

He loved spending time with family; traveling, camping or playing games. Vern enjoyed gardening. He and his son-in-law, Steve, were known for the "Berry Bubble" where they grew and sold beautiful, delicious strawberries. He looked forward to planting flowers and doing yard work. He loved painting houses, inside and out and doing genealogy work.

He is survived by his wife, Verla; children: Idona Hawker, Pocatello; Ila (Michael) Hale, Logan, Utah; Starla (Steven) Serr, Rose; Lorna (Richard) Fawcett, Rose; and David Glenn Fackrell, Santa Rosa, California; a sister, Selma VanDercreek, Blackfoot; 23 grandchildren (and each one of them was his favorite) and 44 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by brothers: Dean Reese, John Reese, Von Reese (twin), Ernest Frank, Edward Glenn, David Reuel, Leo, Parley S., Fred, Clarence; sisters: Clifta, Rachel Elizabeth Gilbert, Hannah, Margaret Amy, and Lucy Ann.
