Vernon LeRoy Hess Obituary
Vernon LeRoy Hess, 71, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 at Good Samaritan in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He was born August 14, 1944 in Perry, Oklahoma the son of Glenn C. Hess and Leona Ester Hageman Hess.?He received his education in Perry, Oklahoma and at the age of 13 moved to Blackfoot, Idaho. He graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1963.
Vernon served in the Army in Germany and then served for many years in the National Guard.
In 1967 he married Dorothy Ann Ellswoth in Salt Lake City, UT. She preceded him in death in 1993.
He then married Carren Ann Cook on June 30, 1995.
Vernon was a member of the Blackfoot Pool League. He was also a member of the rifle team in the military where he was a sharp shooter.
He ran a shoe store. He worked at JC Penney's and Carl Shoes. He worked at Basic American Foods for 27 years in maintenance and painting.
He enjoyed working with wood, gardening, making knives  from arrow heads, playing pool and was an all around handy man.
He is survived by his wife, Carren of Blackfoot; children, Fredrick J. Hess of Blackfoot, Quinton L. (Lynnetta) Hess of South Dakota, Katherin J. Hess of Shelley, Charlotte M.(Jeff) Wells of Pingree; step-children, Bryan (Lori) Jorgensen of Blackfoot, Robert (Paula) Jorgensen of North Carolina, Tammy (Jason) Gallegos of Pocatello, Lori Ann (Jim) Thomas of Arizona; sister-in-law, Sonja Hess of Missouri, brother, Robert E (Pat) Hess of Shelley; 18 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Leona Hess, his wife, Dorothy Hess and a brother, Harvey.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2015 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, Idaho.
The family will meet with friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
