Funeral services for Mrs. Barbara Kay Areno will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 1, 2021 at K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center, in Jacksonville. Burial will follow at Whites Gap Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will receive friends Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Areno, 83, of Jacksonville, Alabama passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston. She was born on November 27, 1937, in Jacksonville, Alabama, and was a long-standing member of her community. With a love of music deep in her soul, she played a variety of instruments, including the piano at White's Gap Baptist Church. Her love of music and devotion to her family will be her legacy. Kay is survived by her son, Michael Areno; grandchildren, Amanda Salazar and husband, Jason, Amy Areno, Ethan Areno, Cody Areno, and Justin Areno; great-grandchildren, Zoe Bryant, Nate Bryant, Kathryn Salazar, Elizabeth Salazar, and Cherry Bryant. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leatha Bell and Houston Parris; her husband, George Areno; her daughter, Tamra Areno; and two sons, Tony Areno and John Areno. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to Calhoun County Tornado Relief Fund. , due to recent storms in the community. Pallbearers will be Michael Areno, Cody Areno, Justin Areno, Jason Salazar, and David Bunn.
