Dr. Gerry Braun, 88, passed away Friday, January 08, 2021 at Erlanger Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Teresa Crawford Braun of Jacksonville; children, Charles Curtis Braun of Chatsworth, Ga., Tracie Braun Fitzgerald (Peter) of Columbus, Ga., Kirk Braun (Sophia) of Atlanta, Ga., Heath Braun (Becky) of North Dakota, and Jackie Braun (David) of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Amanda Braun, Benjamin Braun, Alex Young, Ethan Braun, Lily Braun, and Arianna Braun; four sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dr. Braun served in the United States Marine Corps for two years and served in the United States Army for 20+ years as a Doctor of Optometry. He spent 20+ years in Dalton, Ga where he worked as a private optometrist before retiring in 2004. He enjoyed watching sports and was a world traveler. He was a lover of History and enjoyed educating others on it. Dr. Braun was a Christian, who loved God and tried to live his life according to God's word. He was a wonderful husband and loving father, who loved his family with all of his heart. He was a substitute grandfather to his nieces and nephews who lovingly called him "G".
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and six sisters.
The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905, Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607, or a local no kill animal shelter.
The family will have a private memorial service.
