Funeral service for Martha Ann Davis Burns, 84, the daughter of the late Morris Clyde Davis and Mary Edd Diffee, will be Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Neale Lanigan, Dr. Tony McCain and Wayne Smart officiating. Burial will follow at Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from noon until time of service.
Mrs. Burns passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Tex (Roy) of Montana and Pam Bruner of Hoover; two granddaughters, Anna Leigh Bruner and Haley Bruner; three brothers, Mike Davis (Barbara), Steve Davis, and Ricky Davis (Kay); three sisters, Pat Lawler (Terry), Julia Grissom (Ken), and Kelle Cash; several nieces and nephews; and a dear cousin, Frankie Jean Knight.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Davis, Paul Burns, Michael Cobb, Wayne Smart, Jeff Formby, and Dustin Formby. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stan Anderson and the Men of Carmel Church.
Mrs. Burns was a native and lifelong resident of Piedmont and Spring Garden and a graduate of Piedmont High School. She was a longtime member of Carmel Church, where she served in many leadership roles and was active in Women of the Church. When her daughters were young, she served on the safety patrol for Southside Elementary School and later she volunteered as a reading mentor. Mrs. Burns worked at Playtex and Ft. McClellan and lovingly spent many hours sewing for her daughters and granddaughters. She participated along with her late husband in Genealogy groups.
Mrs. Burns will be missed by her family, friends, the community, and her beloved cats.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Francis "Billy" Burns; her parents; and two brothers, Randall Davis and Eddie Diffee.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Carmel Church, P.O. Box 61, Spring Garden, AL 36275, Spring Garden Volunteer Fire Department, 4635 Co Rd 8, Piedmont, AL 36272, or to a charity of choice.
