Piedmont- Funeral service for Sarah Frances "Fran" Childress, 80 , of Piedmont will be Saturday. January 02, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Smith and Dr. Kevin Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to services.
Mrs. Childress passed away on her birthday, Monday, December 28, 2020, at her home.
Survivors include one daughter, Vivian Antoinette Wilkinson; one son, Allen Hugh Childress; six grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, Orville Stewart; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Michael Denoyer, Jacob Smith, Luke Smith, Phil LeCroy, Kip McFry, and Randy Morgan. Mrs. Childress was a native of Piedmont, a graduate of Piedmont High School, and attended Jacksonville State University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Piedmont. She loved the lifestyle and travel that was associated with the military life. She and her husband, Hugh, came back home in the early 80s and made Piedmont their home again. She loved spending time with her family, friends, and taking care of Hugh in the latter years.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hugh Childress, daughter, Michelle Bowdler, parents, Earnest and Ora Stewart, and seven siblings.
