AGE: 81 • Toms River

Frieda Chandler (Schroeder), 81, Toms River, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at home. Born in Nurnberg, Germany, she survived WWII and made her way to America aboard the SS United States where she lived in Long Branch and then Brick before moving to Toms River 40 years ago. She was self-employed as a seamstress for many years. Frieda was very active in the Ladies Auxiliary Elks of Toms River BPOE 1875. She was a past First Lady, secretary, treasurer, vice president and was the photographer for many Elks events.

Predeceased by her husband, Douglas. Surviving is her daughter, Cathy Eva Schmehl and her husband Brett of Toms River; and two grandchildren, Melinda and Kristyne.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 until the memorial service at 3 p.m. at The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Popcorn Park Zoo, 1 Humane Way, Forked River, NJ 08731. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.ryanfuneralhome.com.

i have so many great memories of when we were growing up and spending holidays and family gatherings together. I am so sorry for your loss and hope you can find peace in knowing your mother lived a beautiful life blessed with a wonderful daughter and granddaughters.
