Manfred Dahlheimer Obituary

Manfred (Fred) Dahlheimer

Whiting

Manfred (Fred) Dahlheimer passed away on Saturday, June 24, 2017 while on vacation with his beloved wife Mary. He was born to the late Maria and Joseph Dahlheimer, in Holzminden, Germany. He grew up during the second World War in Germany. He was educated in Germany. In 1961 he came as an immigrant to the United States of America, five years later he became a United States Citizen. He lived in New Brunswick, NJ for approximately 30 years before moving to Toms River.

He was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, as a Scoutmaster with Troop #32 in Piscataway for about 10 years. He was also a member of "The Order of the Arrow".

In 1976 he left his mark on a rock overlooking the Raritan River in East Brunswick. He carved into the Rock the Bicentennial Emblem and the Name of then Mayor of East Brunswick, William F. Fox. He was honored for this by the Mayor and by the Bicentennial Commission of East Brunswick, NJ.

He was a member of the East Brunswick Kiwanis Club. He served as President of the club and chaired many committees. He was elected and then re-elected for two terms as Lt. Governor of Kiwanis in New Jersey. He was honored by the Governor of Kiwanis in New Jersey, with the "Distinguished Lt. Governor" award, and by his club with a Life Membership with Kiwanis International.

He worked as a carpenter, and then as an independent contractor in his own business. Then in the mid seventies he was hired by Mr. H. Hovnanian to build a lumberyard and a manufacturing plant for pre-fab housing. He built about 15,000 homes in that plant. He worked there until he retired in 2000. While he was working there, a devastating earthquake occurred in Armenia (Soviet Union) December 1988. Twenty-five thousand people lost their lives and about five hundred thousand became homeless. Mr. Hovnanian and the Armenian Assembly of America out of Washington, DC made "Fred" in charge of building three manufacturing plants for housing in Armenia. He spent about a year in Armenia to build those plants which are still working today.

Fred was pre-deceased by a sister, the late Christel Skourakis in 2011.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Mary Joan Dahlheimer; a son, Peter Joseph Dahlheimer, M.D. and his wife Daniela Dahlheimer, M.D., and now since 2/17/09 granddaughters Alani and Amelia; a step-son, Anthony Mancini and his wife Debra, and their two children Dana Marie and Anthony Jr. He also leaves behind a sister, Marianne Warnebold. Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 115 Lacey Rd. Whiting.
