George M. Makely, 94, a 61 year River Plaza resident, died Friday, October 18,2013 at Riverview Medical Center. George was born in Jersey City to Michael and Mary (Voytun) Makely. He proudly served in the US Army during WWII from 1939 to 1943. He was a supervisor at Jabel Inc. in Irvington for over 40 years before his retirement in 1989. George was a life member of the DAV in Middletown, as well as, the American Legion Post #515, a member of the National Rifle Assoc., a member of the NJ Museum of Transportation, Inc., Pine Creek Railroad and a lifetime member of the Jednota First Catholic Slovak Union.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth Doscher, Helen Von Ohlen and Mae Buchalski, brothers, Michael, Joseph and Edward and in 1995 by his beloved wife of 48 years, Virginia (Strandberg) Makely. George is survived by his children, Jill Pelland and husband Ronald of Orlando, FL, Jack and his wife Kathryn of Port Monmouth, Cynthia Bresan and husband Vincent of Willingboro and Beth Maul and husband Jeffrey of Atlantic Highlands, and, sisters, Gerry Hembling of FL and Dorothy Cavanaugh of MI, grandchildren, Rebecca and husband Corey, Bonnie, Bethany, Daniel, Carlie, Adam, Courtney and Victoria, a step-granddaughter, Brittany, great-granddaughter, Layla and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd from 6-9pm at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 23rd 10am at St. Anthony of Padua RC Church, 121 Bridge Ave., Red Bank. Entombment will follow at Fair View Cemetery in Middletown.
