Gertrude H. Van Pelt, (nee O'Brien), 91, of Forked River, died Monday, March 17, 2014, at the Bey Lea Village Care Center, Toms River. Born in Bloomfield, NJ, on September 8, 1922, she resided in Bloomfield and Clifton before moving to the Forked River section of Lacey Township in 1976. Gertrude was a communicant of St. Philip the Apostle Church in Clifton and The Church of St. Pius X in Forked River. She served as President of the Rosary Society, was the Advocate for the Handicapped and taught religious education for many years.

Gertrude was a "hands-on" grandma who delighted in spending time with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, who loved her dearly. She was a special "Aunt Trudy" to her four nieces and their children.

She was predeceased by her husband, Myron Q. Van Pelt; her parents, John and Dorothy O'Brien; and siblings, Dorothy and John Jr. Surviving are her 7 children and their spouses, Linda and Stephen Cellini, Forked River, Peter and Sandra Van Pelt, Clermont, FL, Ellen and Clifford Caines, Laurel, MD, Philip and Jeryl Ann Schneider, Clifton, NJ, Mary and Leo Lapinski, Spring Hill, FL, Clare and Thomas Stevenson, Alexandria, TN, and Carol Van Pelt, Lanoka Harbor.

Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 Thursday at Layton's Home For Funerals, (609) 971-6800, 250 W. Lacey Road, Forked River, Lacey. Relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Friday, at 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home, hence to St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church, Forked River, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donation in Memory of Gertrude would be appreciated to the Church of St. Pius X, 300 West Lacey Road, Forked River, NJ 08731.
