John Lubbers Obituary

John Lawrence Lubbers

John Lawrence Lubbers (Jack) died on Monday, April 24, 2017. Jack was born to Bill and Doris Lubbers on April 18, 1941 in Washington, DC. Jack was raised in Chatham, New Jersey. He graduated from Chatham schools in the class of 1959. He then earned a degree in Business from Nichols College in Dudley, MA.

After college, Jack worked for Asplundh Tree Experts. He enlisted and was proud to serve in the Marine Corp Reserves where he received numerous marksmanship awards. Next, he worked for ESSO as an oil heat salesman. In the 1960s, Jack worked for Smith & Wesson as a law enforcement distributor. He later became sales manager for Smith & Wesson Electronics.

Jack then moved to Toms River, New Jersey and met his dear wife and best friend, Theresa. They married in 1974. Jack worked as a manufacturing representative in law enforcement and the sporting goods market until 1986 and received many recommendations of achievement in those areas. He then became a manufacturer of specialty advertising products to the sporting goods and law enforcement industries.

Jack and Theresa moved to Charleston in 1995. Jack retired in 2014. Jack was an avid reader. He often laughed about reading history books that were so thick he could hardly hold them. Jack was a long- time member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church and of the Harbour Club.

He was also a lifetime member of the NRA.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Theresa. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Chris Findlay, and nephew, James Findlay, and three cousins, Ed, Larry, and Glen Lubbers. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Dorothy Aungst. He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Doris Lubbers, and two sets of wonderful grandparents.

Theresa would like to thank Dr. Lingerfelt and his staff for their care, caregivers of Caris Hospice and the many friends and neighbors who stepped forward to help in so many ways.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 28, 2017, at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church,. Following the service, Theresa will receive friends at the Harbour Club, 35 Prioleau St. Burial will be private. Jack's Guestbook may be signed at www.CharlestonFunerals.com. Dearest Theresa,
Just read about Jack's passing. So very sorry for your loss. As Angela's daughter, can remember seeing the two of you on occasion walking the dogs. What a wonderful couple you were!I I KNOW it will be a difficult adjustment, but rely on the help of God to get through it. Please know I am praying for you...

I was privileged to know Jack and his lovely wife Theresa since the very early 70's. He and I were independent representatives in the sporting goods business, both of us were just getting started in the business and were sharing some manufacturers and over time we became very close, he is my very best friend. He and his lovely wife Theresa are in my estimation the epitome of the happiest and most compatible marriage of two people that I know. He will be missed by all that knew him.
