Joseph John Cesta, 90, of Manchester, died Sunday, September 1 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was born and raised in the Bronx, spent 25 years in Livingston, and 17 years in Knowlton before moving to Manchester 9 years ago. He served honorably in the Marine Corps during WWII and saw action during the Pacific campaign at the Battle of Peleliu. After leaving the Corps, he was recalled for the Korean War. Joe worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for over 30 years and retired in 1988 as a manager. He continued to teach life insurance to new agents for Met Life for several years after his retirement. He volunteered his time with the Vincent de Paul Society in the Bronx, was a Eucharistic minister for St. John's Church, Lakehurst and St. Jude's Church, Blairstown, and was a member and past president of the Leisure Village West chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He is predeceased by his son, Joseph Cesta Jr who died in 2000. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Philomena; daughter and her companion Margaret Cesta and Warren Schuckies of Lakewood, son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Nancy of Hillsborough; daughter and son-in-law Karen and James Hitzeman of Glenview, IL; 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation is 9 to 10:30 AM Thursday, September 5 at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Rd, Manchester.
