William Roger Cochrane

AGE: 82 • Long Beach Island

William Roger Cochrane, died at home on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013 at the age of 82. He was born to Sarah Rogers Cochrane and William Cochrane in Scranton, PA on Jan. 11, 1931. William, known as Bill, was raised and educated in New York City. He was a decorated veteran of the Korean War, having served as Tank Commander. He married Geraldine (Jeri) Doyle on Jan. 18, 1953 and they settled in Bergenfield, NJ. He was an elastic manufacturer for the shoe industry for over 40 years in Bergen County before retiring in 1996. Following his retirement, he and Jeri moved full time to their dream home on Long Beach Island, NJ. An avid golfer, Bill also enjoyed time on the beach, both on LBI and during winter vacations in Puerto Rico. He was a member of the Beach Haven Yacht Club and a tireless volunteer at the St. Francis Food Pantry. Annual visitors to St. Francis' Festival Of The Sea will remember him behind the seafood booth for many years.

Bill was a wonderful husband, father, friend and neighbor. In addition to his beloved wife Jeri, he is survived by his children, William of North Bergen, NJ, Steven of Manhattan, NY and Cynthia of Pittstown, NJ. He is also survived by his little buddy, Auggie who provided much comfort during Bill's valiant battle with Alzheimer's.
