Barry Goldman Obituary
Ocean Township - Barry Goldman of Ocean Township, NJ, passed away on February 22. Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, where he attended schools. He spent his childhood summers in Deal, New Jersey, where he began his lifelong love affair with fishing. He was accepted to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geology. He served in the United States Army and although he was never deployed he gained many formative life lessons. After his discharge from the Army, he went to work for his cousin, Leon Hess, at Amerada Hess Corporation. Being very entrepreneurial, he had several career changes including working for Hayden Stone in Manhattan as a Stockbroker, owning and running Winner Industries, a manufacturer of supplements for thoroughbred racehorses, and ultimately returning to his first love of fishing on the Jersey Shore. He was affectionately known to his fishing comrades as Captain Barry. He designed and oversaw the construction of The Ol' Salty 2, a 65-foot charter/head boat, which he captained out of Belmar, NJ., for many years. During that time he gained exceptional notoriety as a preeminent fisherman holding many world records and legendary status among the fishing community. He spent countless hours studying charts, migratory and weather patterns, like a scientist, to achieve extraordinary success for himself and his clients. He had a boisterous, witty personality, was a wonderful storyteller, and had a distinguishable laugh. His love for his grandchildren brought him tremendous joy. He is predeceased by his parents G. George and Phyllis Goldman of Wilentz, Goldman & Spitzer, and a son-in-law Christopher Nadler. He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanor Goldman, children Leslie Goldman and David Goldman, and grandchildren Coltrane Nadler, Adison Nadler, and Sean Goldman and sister Suzanne Muller, and husband Michael.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to sharkriversurfanglers.com in support of their Annual Kid's Trout Contest. Barry loved sharing this with his grandchildren. Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Ocean, are in charge of arrangements.

Barry and I were on the Belmar charter boat dock and he was one of the finest fishing captains and a very interesting man to talk about fishing and fish behavior. Lots of fun to be around and as hard core as you can get as a captain. Rest In Peace Captain. God Bless

He was a captain of all times. Many, many trips my husband planned on the Ol’Salty! My husband, Bob DeMarco loved going fishing with Barry. (He’s deceased) but if he was alive with surely stand up and salute, his fishing mentor. All I remember is; if you get sea sick don’t do it inside his boat!

Barry was one hell of a captain and fisherman. Growing up on the docks I will never ever ever forget his laugh and his personality! He was one of the best fisherman with no technology and just a gut feeling. We all will miss him.

So so sorry to learn about Capt. Barry’s passing. Dave learned a lot from him. Our kids always enjoyed fishing on the Ol Salty and he enjoyed it too. We were just talking about him the other day.
