Edward Basaman Obituary

Edward T. Basaman

AGE: 72 •

Edward T. Basaman, 72, died peacefully after a long illness on April 5, 2017. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ to the late Charles and Elizabeth Basaman. Ed was a Vietnam veteran who served in the Naval submarine service on the U.S.S. Wahoo as a Fire Control Technician. For his service, Ed received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Subsequently, Ed earned a law degree from Rutgers University. He is survived by his three children, Leigh Ann, Michael, and David; his beloved granddaughter, Amy; and two brothers, Donny and Paul. Ed is predeceased by his parents and brothers, Chet and John. Ed will be buried in a private ceremony on April 13 at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery with military honors. Ed Basaman was a kind and intelligent man who will be missed and remembered.

I remember walking with my father around tampa and driving back to New Jersey to see Amy , his granddaughter. I love and miss him very much. he worked very hard to keep us out of danger and teach us to love one another. He remembered us and had faith in us. He helped me get a clemancy for something I didn`t do.

On behalf of the Charleston Base SUBVETS and Swamp Fox Chapter SUBVETS WWII, I offer you our sincere condolences on Ed's passing. We grieve with you on the loss of your loved one and our shipmate. The SUBVETS will have your family in our thoughts and prayers. There is no expiration date on the back of our dolphins and Ed, who earned his 'fish' when he qualified on USS WAHOO SS-565 in 1962, will always be remembered as a Brother of the Phin and a great Patriot.
