Benjamin D. Szymanski, Jr., 91, entered eternal life on Monday, September 29, 2014 at home with loving family by his side. Born in Bayonne, NJ, son of the late Benjamin and Rosalie (Zerpka) Szymanski, Sr., he was a lifelong resident of Manville. Benjamin was a recipient of the Purple Heart and honorably discharged from the United States Army as a T/Sergeant having faithfully served his country during World War II. He retired as a truant officer after 37 years of dedicated employment with the Manville Board of Education. He was a communicant of Christ the Redeemer Parish (Sacred Heart Church) in Manville, a member of Purple Heart Chapter #27 in Somerville, Thomas J. Kavanaugh Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2290 in Manville, American Legion Post #304 in Manville and Disabled American Veterans in Somerville.
Besides his parents, Benjamin was predeceased by five siblings, John, Louise Budd, Tony, twin brother Stanley and Rose Szymanski. Benjamin leaves behind to cherish his memory, beloved wife, Rita (Urban) Szymanski with whom he joined hands in marriage on September 24, 1955; three loving children, Andrea Liptak and husband Gregory of Manville, Bernadine Bonsper and husband Tim of Punta Gorda, Fl and Benjamin D. Szymanski, III and wife Judy of Manville; dear brother, Mike Szymanski of Manville. He will be deeply missed by his three adored grandchildren, Andrew Liptak, James Liptak and Amanda Szymanski and two precious step grandchildren, Richard and Jon Hennessy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation at Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home, 205 South Main Street, Manville, NJ 08835 on Friday, October 3 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, October 4 from 8:00-8:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 4 beginning 8:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 9 a.m. funeral liturgy at Christ the Redeemer Parish in Sacred Heart Church in Manville. Committal words will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge.
