AGE: 92 • Bayville

Albert S. Passione, 92, of Bayville, died peacefully on September 6, 2017. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he also lived in Roselle Park and Lanoka Harbor before moving to Bayville in 1992. Mr. Passione was a Pipe Fitter with the US Government at the Brooklyn Naval Ship Yard for over 20 years. Afterwards, he was a self-employed Carpenter/Contractor in the Ocean County area. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Hampden County (LST-803), tank landing ship and a survivor of the Battle of Okinawa, (code name "Operation Iceberg") of 1945. He also survived the devastating 1960 USS Constellation fire at the Brooklyn Navy Yard where he helped rescue friends and colleagues.  Fifty men were lost that day.  He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the Italian American Club and the Old Guard, all of Lacey Township. Al was predeceased by his beloved wife Camilla in 2010.

Surviving are; three children, Mario Passione and his wife Karen of Fanwood, MaryAnn DeProspo and her husband Carl of Gilford, NH and, Michelle Luca and her husband Larry; of Little Silver, seven grandchildren, Bryan, Leigha, James, Jenna, Joseph, Jake and Christian.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the viewing on Tuesday, Sept. 12th, from 9am to 10:30am at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. A Funeral Mass will follow to St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Road, Bayville at 11am. The burial is at 1:30pm at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Rd., Wrightstown, 08562.
