AGE: 89 • Manchester

Alvin M. Welter, age 89, of Manchester Township, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ.

Born in Irvington, NJ, Alvin and his wife, Gertrude Barbara, moved to Union, NJ where they raised their three daughters. They settled in Manchester upon his retirement. He was the co-owner of Welter & Kreutz Printing in South Hackensack and retired in 1993. He was a member of the Ocean County Society of Model Railroaders and volunteered countless hours with railroad restoration at the Whippany Railway Museum as well as the Pine Creek Railroad Museum in Wall Township. He was known for his magnificent gardening and skillful woodworking. He was a faithful member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Brick. His family will always remember him as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Alvin was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Louise Welter and his brother Robert Welter. Surviving is his loving wife of 66 years Gertrude Barbara Welter (nee Decker); children Nancy Firth and her husband Robert, Lois Holota and her husband Steven and Linda Reinhardt and her husband Michael; grandchildren Allison Duvall and her husband JonPaul, David Lepelletier, DMD and his wife Katrina, DMD, Rev. Lori Kitzing and her husband Rev. Andrew, Michele Tawes and her husband Bill, Lauren Holota, Kevin, Kelly and Kaitlyn Reinhardt; great-grandchildren Graham Duvall and Emma Tawes and sister Florence Steinbach.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 from 1PM to 5PM at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 1329 Route 37 West, Toms River. Cremation will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
