Ann I. Ryder Obituary
Ann I Ryder

AGE: 86 • Whiting

Ann I. Ryder, 86, of Whiting, Manchester Township, Ocean County, died peacefully at home on July 24, 2017. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 38 years, Thomas, a WWII veteran of the US Marine Corps. She is survived by her son, Timothy, her daughter, Ann, her four grandchildren who brought her much joy and many loving relatives, nieces, nephews and friends.

A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Ann worked as an administrative assistant before her retirement in 1999. She moved to Whiting to be near her children and grandchildren and delighted in spending time with them. Ann made many friends in Ocean County and became an active member of the Whiting Comfort Club where she was known for her fabulous earrings, bright smile, easy laugh and skilled crocheting. Ann enjoyed spending days at the Jersey shore and always kept a beach chair and umbrella in the trunk of her car. Ann loved traveling and the opportunity to meet and shake the hand of Saint Pope John Paul II during a Vatican audience was one of the enduring highlights of her life.

Because she was grateful for skilled and compassionate medical care that had been afforded to her and her family, and because she deeply believed that an in-depth study of the human body was an important part of medical education, Ann chose to make an anatomical donation after death to the Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School as her husband had done before her. Ann's family is comforted in the knowledge that all people involved in medical education venerate and value the life process and they hope that her donation will advance medical science and the knowledge of the next generation of physicians.

Ann's family is grateful to those neighbors and friends who supported and assisted Ann during her final years as well as her second "family" at the Regency Memory Care Club in Toms River with whom she shared many happy hours of companionship.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass which will be offered for Ann on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10:45 a.m at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton R.C. Church, 30 Schoolhouse Road, Manchester Township, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a memorial donation in Ann's memory is asked to consider the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, NSA Lakehurst, Berry Road, Building 158, Lakehurst, NJ 08733-2362, or on-line at
