Ann M. Riordan Obituary
Ann M. Riordan

Toms River - Ann McHugh Riordan of Toms River passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018, at Brandywine Assisted Living. Born June 10, 1928 in Jersey City, to Patrick McHugh and Mary Judge McHugh, Ann was a first generation Irish American. She was proud of her Irish heritage from County Mayo. Ann attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and St Michael's High School, both in Jersey City. She graduated from St. Michael's in 1946, and went onto work as a secretary for American Express and Bethlehem Steel. She married the love of her life, James "Mickey" Riordan, in 1948 and was married 50 years before his passing in 1998. Ann was most proud of her children and was very involved with their lives growing up in Jersey City. They were members of Our Lady of Victories (OLV) Parish. She and her husband were very active with the CYO basketball program, the cub scouts, and the mother's club where she ran "card parties" to benefit OLV. She was also an officer with the mother's club for Hudson Catholic High School. She moved to Monterey Beach at the Jersey shore in 1978, and to Toms River in 1999. Ann had a great work ethic and loved to work at any job. She worked in the American Laundry in Ocean Beach, and the Shop Rite on Fischer Blvd. in Toms River. Of all her jobs over the span of 70 years of working, she loved her work at the Shop Rite. In the wonderful 24 years at Shop Rite, she made many friends, had many stories, and loved her customers. She reluctantly retired from the Shop Rite in 2012. She moved to Brandywine in 2016 where she resided until her death. Ann was predeceased by her husband and parents. She is survived by her three loving children and their spouses: Kevin and Anne of Upper Montclair; James and Michelle of Toms River; Joanne and Mark Mauriello of Long Branch; 6 grandchildren: Todd (Diana) Mauriello, Daniel (Lindsay) Mauriello, Katie, Cara, Kelsey and Kyle Riordan: and 2 great grandsons, Dominic Mauriello and Marco Mauriello. She is also survived by her one and only brother, Joseph McHugh of Coral Springs, FL, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visiting will be Wednesday 9:00am to 10:00am at the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Luke's RC Church at 10:30am. Cremation will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sisters of Charity Convent, P.O. Box 476, Convent Road, Convent Station, NJ 07961-0476.
