Arnold Marforio, a longtime resident of Howell, died on May 26, 2017, near his home in Allen, Texas.

He was born in Stresa, Italy on April 17, 1927, the third of four children of Lydia Borel Marforio and Anton Marforio. Arnold was two years old when his parents came to NY and he grew up in various parts of Manhattan and Staten Island.

He served his country in the Second World War in the US Navy, stationed in the Pacific on the USS Indiana. In 1951, he married his next door neighbor Betty Hankey. In 1951, he also became the seventh employee at Amerada Hess, which then was Hess Coal & Ice in Asbury Park. Arnold worked for Hess first in maintenance and then as a welder until he retired in 1985.

In 1959, Arnold, his wife, and two daughters moved to Howell. He was active at the Church of the Master, including serving as an usher and a member of its Board of Trustees. He was a bird watcher and bicyclist. Arnold and Betty moved to Allen, Texas in 2002.

Arnold is survived by his daughters Janet Steinman of New York City, and Susan Love of Allen, Texas; son-in-law Dr. Mark Steinman; grandchildren David Steinman, Rachel Steinman, Allison Love-Snyder, and Zach Love; grand-son-in-law Shawn Snyder; sisters Marcelle Bradley and Elsie Marforio of Florida; his foster brother Mike Muccino; and nine nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by Betty Marforio, his wife of 62 years; his son-in-law Gene Love; and his sister Helen Zucconi of Arizona.

Arnold always owned dogs and was a devoted animal lover. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the ASPCA at https://secure.aspca.org/donate/memorial.
