Assunta "Sunnie" Sistad, 96, of Brick left us peacefully Friday, December 2, at Sunnyside Manor in Wall Township. Sunnie was born in Point Pleasant and had lived in Wall Township for over 50 years before moving to Greenbriar II in Brick in 1985. Sunnie was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Belmar for 59 years where she served as a deacon, a church elder, a Sunday school teacher, she sang in the choir for 31 years and she was a sister of the Dorcas Circle. Sunnie was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School, then she was a homemaker and in 1967 became an administrative assistant to the principal of Wall Central School for 15 years before retiring in 1982. She was an avid ping pong player and she enjoyed dancing. Sunnie volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was often found driving the residents of Greenbriar to their doctor's visits as a member of Caring and delivered the Greenbriar Newsletter to the residents up until a few years ago. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Order of the Amaranth, and the Belmar Elks Auxiliary.

Sunnie was predeceased by her first husband Leon Pettit in 1978 and her second husband Arden Sistad in 1998; her siblings Mayme Fornorotto, Louis, Henry and Arnold Caruso and her stepson Robert Sistad. She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters Judy Ahlers and her husband Ed of Wall and Nancy Pettit of Rock Hill, SC; a stepson Richard A. Sistad, Sr. of Toms River, NJ.; a brother Emidio Caruso of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ; three grandchildren Jeff Ahlers, Lisa Hill and Katie Ahlers; six great-grandchildren Ashley Collins, Emma, Molly and Jeffrey Ahlers, Taylor and Ryan Hill; and one great-great-granddaughter Ava Brooks. Sunnie is also survived by her step grandchildren Richard A. Sistad Jr., Christine Sistad, Nicki Schoenleber, Robert Sistad, and William Sistad; her step great-grandchildren Richard A. III, Brandon and Bradley Sistad, Timothy, Shawn, Taylor and Alex McDonough, Dana Teeple, and Casey Schoenleber; and her step great-great-grandchildren Richard A. IV, Christopher, Bianca and Bodhi Sistad and Gia Marie Teeple.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 3 pm to 7 pm at the Orender Family Home for Funerals 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church of Belmar at 12 noon. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.
