Audrey Patricia Fickes

AGE: 89 •

Audrey Patricia Fickes, age 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by her immediate family in Tinton Falls, NJ on May 4. She was born in Butler, Pennsylvania on 9/4/1927; and with her family moved a few times during her grade school years ultimately graduating from Ramsey High School. She was the youngest of 8 children of her parents, Jessie and Harry Smith, and the last of her generation. Known as 'Pat", she met her beloved husband Joseph Fickes (1926-2013) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where she was working at Pan Am Airlines. They met and married in 1953 and eventually moved to New Jersey, where she created homes in Waldwick, Ramsey and then Loch Arbour that were filled with family, friends, and neighbors; with love, and laughter and friendship. She had a variety of jobs, however the highlight of her career was as an Officer of Chemical Bank in Manhattan from where she retired. She was the proud mother and mother-in-law of Kate Fickes and her husband Brian McCarthy, of Loch Arbour, NJ, both of whom predecease her; Jack Fickes and his wife Janet Fickes, of Ocean Township, NJ; and Amy Cherella and her husband Rob Cherella, of West Allenhurst, NJ. She doted on her six grandchildren - Carly Marano and husband Steve Marano; Tyler Fickes, Georgia Fickes, Amy Suttle, Jack Cherella and Gavin Cherella - relishing their frequent phone calls and visits throughout her life. She is also mourned by generations of nieces and nephews, each of whom she made feel special and cherished throughout their lives and hers. Her friendships, formed from youth to old age, lasted throughout her life, embraced by her warmth, hospitality and the nourishing bond of lives and histories shared. A memorial gathering will take place on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune, NJ at 1 PM followed by a service at 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Save The Children, 501 Kings Hwy East, Suite 400, Fairfield, Ct 06825. Please note "Memorial: Patricia Fickes" on donations.
