Barbara Ann McKinley Freer Obituary
Barbara Ann McKinley Freer

AGE: 88 • Ocean Grove

Barbara Ann McKinley Freer peacefully died in her home in Ocean Grove, November 29, 2016, age 88. Born in Jersey City to Robert and Doris Usher McKinley, Barbara's upbringing, shared with her sister, Betty Jane McKinley, later Cook, was one filled with creativity, humor, and a zest for life. Breton Woods was home during the WWII era, where they provided hospitality to visiting servicemen, enjoying their love of music, art, literature, and the beach side community, and neighbors around them.

Barbara graduated from Point Pleasant Beach HS, 1946, and Georgian Court College, 1953, and began teaching music in several area schools. She married Alfred Freer in 1959, raising their daughters Victoria and Alexandra in Point Pleasant. Active in school, church, and community events, Barbara and Al lent their talents to special occasions with shows that featured song, dance, and skits enjoyed by both audiences and performers. Al began teaching at Georgian Court College in 1978, where they were embraced by the Court family. They moved to Holiday City, Toms River, in 1998, and began to travel, enjoying several very special excursions. Following Al's passing in 2000, Barbara resettled in Ocean Grove, living next door to her daughter Alex and her family. She enjoyed strolls downtown, chatting with neighbors from her front porch, and Harry, her cat.

Remembering her with love are: daughter Vicky Gianakos and husband Chuck, daughter Alex Freer and husband Chris Chilvers, grandsons Jacob, Stephen and Elliot, niece Penny Ludovico and husband Len, niece Sandy Green and husband George, nephew Chris Cook and wife Nancy, her cousin Bob McKinley, Al's nephew and nieces, and all their extended families, friends Russell McTague and John McFarlane, Carole and Diane Clayton, and many other family members and friends. Donations to the NJ Commission for the Blind or Autism Speaks would be fitting tributes to Barbara, both organizations enhancing her life and the lives of those she loved.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, NJ is in charge of the arrangements. For more information or to post a tribute, please visit www.neary-quinnfuneralhome.com.
