AGE: 90 • Spring Lake

Benjamin J. Monello, 90 of Spring Lake passed away January 12, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ben's lifelong mantra was "whatever you have, you share". Benjamin was born in Paterson and had resided in Woodland Park before moving to Spring Lake in 1980.

He was a Vice President of Lobel Clothing Manufacturing in Paterson for over 35 and a salesman for Lieberman Hercules in New York City for 15 years. Benjamin was a United States Army veteran of WWII serving as a Staff Sergeant stationed in Okinawa. A talented musician for his entire life, Ben played the clarinet and saxophone at several local venues, entertaining a multitude of fans with his special musical talents. He was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan his entire life. Ben was happiest spending summer days at the beach with his family at the Jersey Shore.

Benjamin is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years Josephine "Jo" DeStefano Monello, his beloved daughters and their spouses Maria and James D'Errico of Wayne, Joy and Richard Kane of Sea Girt, his 2 brothers Paul and Frank Monello both of Brick, his sister in law Patricia Monello of Wayne, his 5 grandchildren Amy Pellegrini and husband Louis, Julie Palazzolo and husband Adam, and Erica, Jacqueline and Benjamin Kane, and his 3 great grandchildren Zachary Pellegrini and A.J. and Dean Palazzolo. Ben was affectionately known as "Grandpa Ben" to many of his grandchildren's friends. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Emanuel and Mary Caramagna Monello, his dear son Neil Emanuel Monello, his brother Joseph Monello, and his 2 sisters in laws, Gloria and Dolores Monello.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, January 17 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, January 18 at 10:30am at St. Catharine's RC Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Entombment will follow in St. Catharine's Cemetery, Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers the Monello family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project: National Processing Center, P.O. Box 758541, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8541 and Passaic Valley High School's Autism Program, 100 East Main St., Little Falls, NJ 07424. Envelopes will be provided at the Funeral Home on Tuesday.
