Bertha "Billie" Thorne

Bertha "Billie" Thorne entered Heaven peacefully on Monday, May 2nd joining her beloved husband Osie. She was born in Newark and grew up in Union. She married her Valentine Osie and settled in Keyport where they raised their daughter Gail. Billie was a joyful, dedicated worker for the D.O.B. of the US Government and LaCrosse during WWII, Ganshire Sweater Factory, Muriel's Dresses and Steinbachs. She was the proud owner and bookkeeper of Koch Florist &Gifts. She was a girl scout leader, Keyport Grammer School PTA President, Keyport Libary Story Hour Lady, Lincoln Hose Ladies Aux. President, V.F.W. Ladies Aux member, Keyport Women's Club member and St. John's Methodist Church member and office volunteer. She loved cruises, Atlantic City, lottery tickets, eating out, shopping, poolside pinochle games, Sunday family dinners, "nice hamburgers," and her Baby Baxter. She crocheted doilies for everyone! Osie said, "Billie loved people and they loved her." She was our Queen with red lipstick, beautiful jewelry and perfect outfits.

Billie's greatest joys were her family and dear friends, precious daughter Gail and devoted son Bill Bechtoldt, Nanny to cherished grandchildren Karrie Jayne & Joshua Johnson, Jayme & Kiersten Bechtoldt, adored great-grandchildren Kyle, Tyne, Ezra, Connor and Kyra Jayne, devoted nieces Karen Gethard (Bob and Steven), Kathy Roberts (Bill), adopted daughter Sherry Hill, sweet neighbor Rita Fleming and brother-in-law Bob Cowley. Boobie and Snookie are together again. Billie and Osie are dancing in their garden. Cheers Nan!

Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Billie's life on Sunday May 7th at St John's United Methodist Church in Hazlet at 1 pm. Donations in her honor may be made to the Jersey Shore Workcamp, 1870 Highway 35, Middletown, NJ 07748.
