AGE: 83 • Spring Lake

C. Russell Brahn, 83, of Spring Lake, NJ, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. Russ was born and raised in Spring Lake. He attended H. W. Mountz Elementary School and graduated from Asbury Park High School. He served in the United States Navy, stationed at the Naval Air Engineering Station at Lakehurst, NJ. Russ worked as a letter carrier for Spring Lake and later graduated from Monmouth University with a degree in physics. He went on to work as an Electronics Engineer at Fort Monmouth and Camp Evans in Wall for 38 years, retiring in 1989.

Russ was a member and Chief of Goodwill Fire Co. #2 where he was also a Trustee, Vice President and member of the Fireman's Relief Association. He was also an exempt member of the Spring Lake First Aid Squad. Russ was a ham radio operator and was a member of OMARC- Ocean Monmouth Amateur Radio Club and the American Radio Relay League, Inc. for 40 years. He also belonged to the National Rifle Association and Naval Airship Association, Inc.

Russ was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Brahn; his daughter, Linda Brahn; and his parents, C.W. Brahn and Emma Shibla Brahn. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; his 4 sons, Russ Brahn and his wife Donna; Don Brahn, Sr. and his wife Margie; Tommy Brahn and his wife Carol; and Billy Brahn and his wife Deb; his 11 grandchildren, Kristen, Richie, Cory, Ben, Don Jr., Brett, Tiffany, Chris, Justin, Shannon, Laura and their families; and 4 great-grandchildren, Ava, Asher, Mace and Miles with twins on the way.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Atlantic View Cemetery in Manasquan, NJ.
