Long Branch - Carmela T. Chirico, 96, of Long Branch passed away on Sunday February 18th at Meridian Nursing and Rehab in Shrewsbury.

Carmela was born in New York City, where she graduated from high school and began work as a seamstress. She relocated to Long Branch and was a parishioner of the Church of the Precious Blood in Monmouth Beach.

Carmela's love was her family. She adored them, especially the babies; she could always make them smile. She also loved to cook, and would host elaborate Sunday dinners for her family. She will be remembered as the matriarch of the family as well as an "angel who walked the earth."

Carmela was predeceased by her first husband Salvatore Gengaro, and her second husband John Chirico, her sister Anna Commadeo, and her brother Ralph Piccolo.

Surviving are her children, Antoinette Sklinar and her husband John, Sam Gengaro and his wife Kathy, and Felicia Cancellieri and her brother Vincent Piccolo. Also her 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

The Memorial Gathering will be held on Sunday March 18th at 2pm with a service beginning at 3:30 pm at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St. Long Branch. In lieu of flowers the donations can be made in Carmela's name to the , www.donatenow.heart.org or mailed to the , PO Box 417005 Boston, MA 02241-7005.
