Carol Anne Roake Clayton

AGE: 77 • Wake Forest, NC

Carol Anne Roake Clayton of Wake Forest, NC peacefully passed away in her home with her family by her side on February 4, 2016 after a short struggle with cancer. She was 77 years old. Carol was born in Long Branch, NJ on March 18, 1938 and was raised by her parents Esther Kittell Roake and James Herbert Roake in Avon by the Sea. As a young girl she attended the Avon by the Sea Elementary School where her mother was a teacher. She graduated from Manasquan High School in 1956. In 1959 Carol graduated from the Anne May School of Nursing in Neptune NJ where she met many of her lifelong friends. After nursing school she worked as a nurse for several years before becoming a full time mom.

Carol is survived by her loving and devoted husband Alfred "Al" Clayton with whom she enjoyed a happy marriage of 57 years. Together they raised three boys: Bruce, Steven, and Kenneth. She loved and was very proud of her three grandchildren: John, Mao, and Lana. Carol and Al lived together at the Jersey Shore for many years. Over the years they had homes in Avon, Neptune, Wall Township, and at Greenbriar 1 in Brick where she especially enjoyed social activities with her friends. In 2013 Carol and Al moved to Wake Forest, NC so that Carol could be closer to her young granddaughter, and also regionally closer to her other two sons in Orlando, FL and Trussville, AL. For many years Carol was a member of the Old Wall Historical Society. She was very proud of her family's heritage in Wall Township. She spent several years researching the genealogy of her and Al's family histories. She is remembered for her love of cats, going to beach, scrap booking, and traveling.

A viewing will take place on Friday, February 12, 2016, from 6:00 pm to 9:00pm at Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Highway 138, Wall, NJ 07719. So sorry for your loss. Take comfort in knowing that those who have died, to God are as good as alive. A good name is better than good oil and the day of death is better than the day of birth. Eccl. 7:1

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. There is little that I can say or do to ease your pain and suffering. May knowing that you are in the thoughts and prayers of many, bring a measure of comfort. Life is so short and those we love are gone from our lives too quickly. God's promise to empty the grave in the near future is found at Hosea 13:14, may the God of loyal love comfort you during your time of sorrow.
