Toms River - Carol "Mazillo" Matthews, 69, of Toms River died on December 8, 2017. Born in Newark, she lived many years in Hillside. She lived in Clark before moving to Toms River in 2004. Mrs. Matthews had worked in Procurement for 40 years at Engineering, Power Generation and Industrial Gas Companies. Carol was active in Fellowship programs at St. Agnes Church in Clark and was a current parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Toms River. For the past 10 years, she served her community as a First Responder with Silver Ridge Park First Aid Squad, Toms River and, was a part time employee of the Ocean County Library. Carol is predeceased by; her parents, Leonard and Helen Mazillo; her brother Dennis Mazillo and, her husband William Matthews. Surviving are; her niece and nephew, James Mazillo and Meredith Mazillo; three step-children, Connie Samaco, Greg Matthews and Wayne Matthews; also surviving are; seven grandchildren, Danielle, Kevin, John, Lily, Logan, Cyrus and Heidi; three great grandchildren, Chloe, Tristan and Danica and many extended family, friends and special longtime childhood friends from hometown Hillside.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Dec. 13th, from 3pm to 6pm in the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, at a time to be announced, at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Mule Road, Toms River. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's memory to; St. Jude Research Children's Hospital (stjude.org), would be appreciated.
