Carolyn Thompson Dougherty


Carolyn Thompson Dougherty of Manahawkin passed from this life peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin.

She was born on September 8, 1935 in Orange. Her loving parents were Anna Beckert Thompson and John Thompson. She grew up in West Orange and graduated from Orange Memorial School of Nursing in 1956, becoming an Operating Room Nurse until 1963. Later in her career she became a nurse for Bell Telephone Company from 1963-1989. She moved to Manahawkin from West Orange permanently after her retirement.

A daily communicant of St. Mary of the Pines Church in Manahawkin, Carol loved her religion.

She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony; her brothers: Jack and Robert; her sister Theresa Jacobus and her husband Gil; her nephew, Steven Thompson; and nieces: Patricia Thompson and Carol Thompson Romano.

Missing her forever are her sisters-in-law: Barbara J. Thompson and Dolorita Thompson and Irene Dougherty; her nieces: Karen Thompson (Peter Bolten), Barbara Lynn Thompson, Linda LaCosta (Ed), Catherine Passiatore (Michael), and Kathy Camburn; her nephews: John B. Thompson (Laura Fitzgerald), Robert C. Thompson, and Michael Jacobus (Sally). She is also survived by her nine grand nephews and five grand nieces. Carol cherished her many friends, old and new.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses who took wonderful care of Carol at Southern Ocean County Hospital, and to her caring neighbors: Judy Sullivan and her family and Joseph Hajduk.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. from Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Rd., Parsippany, 973-887-3235 or With a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, 100 Whippany Rd., Whippany. Interment: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, E. Hanover. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm ONLY at the Funeral Home.
