AGE: 88 • Forked River

Charles I. Grant, who was known as "Chinkie" age 88, a life long resident of Forked River passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017. His ancestors can be traced back to Forked River as early as the 1600's. Charles was born on September 26, 1928 to J. Irving and Mildred Grant. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in the Seabees during the Korean War from 1948-1952. He was a life member of 72 years in the Forked River Volunteer Fire Department, Station #60 and had served as Assistant Chief. He was also a Charter member and life member of the Lacey Historical Society. Mr. Grant worked as a boat carpenter for Grant Boat Works until he retired in 1992. He would spend his free time enjoying his hobbies which were gardening and hunting.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years Patricia (nee Truch), two sons John C. Grant and his wife Jeanie of Charlo, MT, Michael Grant and his wife Lynn of Forked River, and five daughters Kathleen Meehan of Forked River, Charleen Grant of Forked River, Patricia Laird of Forked River, Joanne Grant and her husband Edward of Lanoka Harbor, and Annette Grant of Forked River. Also surviving are his sisters Janet Rule and Mary McIlroy, along with his 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm at Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Rt. 9, Forked River, NJ 08731, and again on Thursday from 9am until the time of the Funeral Service at 10am, interment will follow in Good Luck Cemetery, Lanoka Harbor. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either the Forked River Volunteer Fire Department P.O. Box 32 Forked River, NJ 08731 or Meridian Hospice 80 Nautilus Blvd, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
