AGE: 91 • Lavallette

Charles J. Schlosser, formerly of Lavallette, NJ and Jupiter, FL passed away at the Harrogate Health Center in Lakewood, NJ on April 4, 2017 with his beloved wife of 67 years by his side.

Charles, a resident of Lavallette for 88 years and a WWll veteran enlisted at the age of 17 in the United States Navy and served in both the Atlantic and Pacific from 1943-1946. Upon returning from the war, he attended Glassboro State College in New Jersey and the University of Miami in Florida and lastly, the Hartford A & I Insurance School in Hartford Ct. where he met his future wife, Lois Malseed. They settled in Lavallette where Charles joined the family business, Schlosser Real Estate and Insurance. While working and raising his family in Lavallette, Charles spent many years coaching Lavallette pony and little league baseball teams. As a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church, he served on the church council and actively engaged in church affairs in the early years. He served as a Captain of the Lavallette First Aid Squad and for over 20 years responded day and night to emergency calls. In business he earned a valuable reputation for his honesty and integrity while leading the family business from a seasonal one to a very successful full time agency. Upon retirement in 1990, he sold the business to his daughter, Andrea. He then began his favorite career of helping, in so many ways, his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in whom he was immensely proud and considered his greatest good fortune.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, son, Douglas Schlosser and wife, Ginny, daughter, Andrea Schlosser and husband Anthony Belli, granddaughter, Dr. Sheila Slavick and husband Ken, granddaughter, Dawn Barlow and husband, Dr. Michael Barlow, grandson, Matthew Schlosser and wife, Brooke, and great-grandchildren Charlotte, Clement, Henry, Otto, Vance, and Brooklyn. Also surviving are two brothers, Robert Schlosser and wife, Ellie, and Clark Schlosser and wife, Carol, as well as various nieces and nephews.

A private inurnment of his cremains will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle, NJ on Friday May 5th. A public memorial service will be held on Saturday May 6th, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Lavallette at 2 pm followed by a celebration of his life at the Lavallete First Aid building. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Lavallette First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 334 Lavallette, NJ 08735.
