AGE: 97 • Lakewood

Chester E. Yuknavage, 97, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2017. He was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA to Jacob and Anna Yuknavage and brother to Adam, Emily, Lucille, and Raymond. Chester served his country at 18 years of age as a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard and then enlisted in the US Army prior to WWII. As a member of the 82nd Airborne, he participated in the European invasion and other operations prior to VE Day. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and European Campaign Medal with 4 bronze service stars. He was a member of the VFW and Disabled American Veterans. Chester was a resident of Brick from 1958-2015 and retired from Hill Refrigeration of Trenton in 1983. He was predeceased by his wife Jane and is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Raymond and Marie Yuknavage of Shaverton, PA and many nieces and nephews. Several years ago Chester donated the memorial to Purple Heart recipients which is located at the Disabled American Veteran's Building 1810 Lanes Mill Road in Brick. Interment will be private. Laurelton Memorial Funeral Home, Brick, NJ is handling the arrangements.
