Claire Petersen Obituary
Claire Petersen

AGE: 86 • Berkeley Twsp., NJ

Claire J. Petersen, 86, of Toms River, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20th, 2017. Born in Woodbridge, NJ on April 4, 1931, Claire was the youngest of 3 children, a graduate of Woodbridge High School class of 1949, and worked for the Ocean County Family Court for over 20 years. Claire was probably best known for her massive love and extensive collection of butterflies as well as being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends as well as going to the beach, traveling, cooking and trying new food, cheering on her favorite football team, the San Francisco 49ers, and the U.S.S. Missouri Association of which she was an active member for many years. Claire's bright personality and inner strength and optimism made her easy to like and impossible to forget.

Claire was predeceased by her beloved husband of 24 years, John Bell, in 2010. She is survived by her 3 sons; Keith Petersen (Cathy) of Carneys Point, NJ, Scott Petersen (Kathy) of Dewitt, VA, and Craig Petersen (Susan) of Richmond, VA, 2 stepchildren; Charlie Bell of Southport, NC and Patricia Harrison of Four Oaks, NC as well as 6 grandchildren; Ryan Harrison, Jessica Petersen Grace (Darrell), Andrew Petersen, Blair Petersen Walls (Alvery), Cori Petersen and John Lieggi (Devin) and 3 great-grandchildren; Callan Walls, Harper Grace and John Lieggi, Jr.

A memorial gathering will be held for Claire on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 1:00 to 3:00pm with a memorial service at 2:30pm at The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River, NJ. Committal will be private. The family asks that purple or other bright colors be worn as well as butterfly print clothing or jewelry in order to properly remember and celebrate Claire's light and love that she shared with so many of us. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Claire's name to any organization supporting our Veterans. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.ryanfuneralhome.com.
