AGE: 91 • Brick

Claire (Van Der Vliet) Pruiksma 91, of Brick died peacefully on Sunday, February 5, 2017. Born in Totowa, she lived most of her life in Clifton, before moving to Brick in 2002. Claire attended Clifton schools, and was an active member of the United Reformed Church of Clifton. Upon moving to Brick, she became a member of the Manasquan Presbyterian Church. Claire was well known for her decorating and cooking skills and was an avid Yankee fan. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her kind and gentle spirit endeared her to all who knew her. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 70 years, Walter, by her sons Walt ( Laurie) of Sheldon, Iowa and Rick (Pat) of Wall Township by eight grandchildren Erin (Jay) Whitcanack of Sheldon, Iowa, Katie (Levi) Morris of Spencer, Iowa, Kristi (Christopher) Freeswick of Hopatcong, Kimberly (Shawn) Theiler of Rockaway, Allison Pruiksma (fiancé Andrew Tencza) of Hopatcong, Jessica (Kyle) Barring of Wantagh, Long Island, RJ Pruiksma and Ryan Pruiksma both of Bradley Beach and by eight great-grandchildren, Tyler and Parker Whitcanack, Baby Morris, Emma and Riley Freeswick, Aubrey and Madilyn Claire Theiler, and Pierson Barring. She was preceded by her son, Ron, and daughter-in-law, Carol Pruiksma, by a brother, Edward Van Der Vliet and by a sister, Dorothy Van Laere. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Wednesday at the Allwood Funeral Home, 660 Allwood Road, Clifton, NJ 07012 followed by burial at Cresthaven Memorial Park. Visiting hours are 11AM to noon Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Claire's name to be given to the Good Shephard Mission, 336 Broadway, Paterson, New Jersey 07513.
