AGE: 69 • Neptune City

Colleen Cross, 69, of Neptune City, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 14, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Cross (nee Ennis) was born in Neptune and was a lifelong resident of Neptune City. She graduated from Neptune High School and then from Rowan University. Her career as an educator began in 1970 at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, where she quickly became a favorite teacher. Colleen retired after 35 dedicated years. She was a member of the Monmouth County Teachers Association and the NJEA. She enjoyed getting together with fellow teachers, past and present, for luncheons, as well as attending Friday Craft Nights with her family. Most importantly, Colleen was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Colleen was pre-deceased by her father, Palmer Ennis, her brother Harry Ennis, and her grandson Brian Cross. She is survived by her beloved husband of 44 years, Larry Cross, by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Linda Cross, of Port Jefferson Station, NY, and by her grandchildren, Matthew, Kaitlyn and Jaime, who were the lights of her life. She is also survived by her mother, Rita Moore, of Neptune, her sister, Kathleen Eckler, of Neptune City, her niece and her husband, Kathel and Doug Willms, of Barnegat, her brother and sister-in-law, John and Diane Ennis, of Ocean Twp., her sister-in-law, Joan Letts, of Shark River Hills and niece, Jessica.

Visitation will take place at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, on Sunday, November 20, 2016, from 2-6 PM. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Church, Avon, on Monday, November 21, 2016, at 10 AM, followed by burial at the NJ Veteran's Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations in Colleen's memory may be made to the Cure SMA Foundation, at, or to Neptune City United Fire Co. #1, PO Box 2002, Neptune City, NJ 07753.
