AGE: 86 • Mantoloking

D. Mark Hawkings, 86, of Mantoloking, died Thursday, December 8, 2016. A native of London, he emigrated with his sister, Penelope, in 1940 to live with foster parents in Rumson, NJ, graduated from St. Paul's School (NH) in 1948 and was commissioned a lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards. He moved to New York in 1951 and was an investment banker at Gregory & Sons, Adams & Peck and its successor firms until his retirement in 1990 to Mantoloking. He served as a member of Mantoloking's Planning Board for the past 16 years and had been a member of the town Fire Police. He also had been treasurer of the Bay Head Yacht Club; a member of the vestry of All Saints Episcopal Church, Bay Head; and a trustee of St. Simon-by-the-Sea.

He was predeceased by the former Susan Smith, his wife of 53 years. Survivors include children, David Hawkings of Washington, DC, and Parish H. Ryan of Princeton, NJ; their spouses Betsy and Dudley; and grandchildren, Harry and Charlie Hawkings and Rin Ryan.

Memorial service Saturday, December 17 at 11am, All Saints Bay Head. In lieu of flowers, donations to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. For more information, visit www.obrien funeralhome.com.
