Dalia Zimmer Obituary
Dalia Zimmer

AGE: 72 • Ocean Twp

Dalia Zimmer, 72, of Ocean Township, NJ passed away at her home on April 29,2017 after a hard fought struggle with heart illness.

Dalia was born in Teheran, Iran and moved with her family to the newly established state of Israel in 1950 to the Tel Aviv area. Like many of her generation, she grew up participating in the youth movements of the newly formed state. In her early 20's she became a member of Kibbutz Harel where she lived until 1975 before moving to the United States. She proudly remained a dual citizen of both countries for the rest of her life.

Dalia was trained and worked as a nurse/midwife in Israel, a profession in which she took the greatest joy and pleasure. While struggling with English, her 2nd language, due to US Healthcare Regulations she was required to obtain her RN License for the 2nd time in her life. She went back to school and re-certified as an R.N. in the United States, while simultaneously raising a family. For over 20 years she was a highly respected and admired Labor and Delivery Nurse at Monmouth Medical Center. With quiet dignity and courage she continued with her career while overcoming Breast Cancer. Years before her retirement, she transitioned into a central role in the Alternative Birth Center. In addition to her nursing career, she spent several years teaching Hebrew to children at Temple Beth Miriam.

Dalia was a devoted loving mother to her son Adam. One of seven brothers and sisters, Dalia is survived by her sister Gilla Gerzon and brother Ruven Anav. She leaves behind numerous loving nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends in both Israel and the United States. Dalia was an avid lover of flowers and spent many peaceful hours in her home garden in Oakhurst, NJ.

Dalia will make her final trip to Israel to be buried at her beloved Kibbutz Harel in Israel on May 3, 2017. A memorial service for stateside friends and family to be held at a sight to be determined in the Ocean Township area will be announced shortly.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a donation to either the ( or National Breast Cancer Foundation ( in honor of Dalia.
