AGE: 80 • Waretown

Daniel James Mahoney, age 80, of Waretown, NJ, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 at the Chelsea in Brick. Born in Asbury Park, he lived in Wall Township prior to moving to Waretown 10 years ago. Daniel was a 1954 graduate of Neptune High School and was a parishioner of Holy Innocents RC Church in Neptune. He served in the United States Coast Guard from 1956-1958. From there he spent the next 30 years as an Asbury Park fireman and inspector. Upon leaving the fire department, he served as the Wall Township Building and Fire inspector for the next 15 years. He was active member of the NJ State Fire Prevention Association and International Association of Arson Investigators; he served as a Deputy Fire Marshall in Monmouth County for 20 years. During his retirement, he volunteered at Albert Music Hall in Waretown.

Daniel was predeceased by his long-time companion Jerena Rezvan. He is survived by his son Darren J. Mahoney and his wife Jennifer of Wall Township; his daughter Danielle M. Nirdlinger and her husband Leslie of Pemberton; his sister Denise Ercolino and her husband Francis of Waretown; 3 grandchildren Emma Sullivan, and Bridget and Daniel Mahoney; his cousin Charles and wife Helen Mahoney of Spring Lake; his former wife Josephine Mahoney of Wall Township and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours are Monday, January 30, 2017, from 2 :00 - 4:00 PM and 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30 am at St. Denis Church in Manasquan. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Asbury Park.
