AGE: 90 • Tinton Falls

David R. Howell, 90, of Tinton Falls, formerly of Red Bank, passed away at his home in Seabrook Village, December 3, 2016. He was born in Phillipsburg, N.J., to the late David W. and Olive M. (nee: Gaffney) Howell. David graduated from Phillipsburg High school in 1943. He proudly served the Army Air Force in WWII, enlisting in September of 1943 at the age of 17. While enlisted, he trained as a Waist Gunner on B-17s, was an Athletic Instructor and earned a Marksmanship badge as a member of the AAF Air Crew. He later graduated from Churchman Business College, located in Easton, Pa. He enjoyed a very successful career as a sales representative in the paper manufacturing industry, working for Riegel Paper Corporation and Rising Paper Company. He was a 30 year member of the YMCA and served on the Board of Directors for the Shadow Lake Residents Association, rejuvenating their Democratic Club. A favorite pastime was playing golf on the beautiful green at Shadow Lake Village, located in Red Bank, where he resided before moving to Seabrook. Civically, he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and a devoted volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Barbara (Tighe) Doyle-Howell; David is predeceased by his first wife, Alice Marie Howell, whom he married in 1951, passing in 1991. Their loving children include; Lawrence, Rosemary K. Dwyer (John), David (Lou-Ann) and Sally A. Warner (Mark) and his dear grandchildren; John and Katherine Dwyer, Heather Obrochta, Ryan Howell and Alex D. Warner. David is also predeceased by his sister Mary Delores McCormick and brother-in-law James A. McCormick.

Visitation will take place at the John E. Day Funeral Home 85 Riverside Avenue Red Bank, NJ 07701 on Thursday, December 8th from 3-7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday, 10:00 am, December 9th at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Ch. Bridge and Chestnut St., Red Bank. Disposition will be private.
