Dolores McGilvray Obituary
Dolores McGilvray

Middletown - Dolores McGilvray, 83, of Middletown, NJ, died peacefully on December 15, 2017 at Brighton Gardens in Middletown. Dolores was born in New York, NY. She lived in Manhasset, NY and Hampton Bays, NY, and recently moved to Brighton Gardens from Shadow Lake Village in Red Bank, where she lived for 13 years.

Dolores was a 14-year member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Red Bank and served as a lector for many years. True to her deep faith, she loved her Sundays at church, always showing up in a new outfit which she would then donate to those less privileged. She enjoyed having her hair done at Salon 360 in Middletown and shopping at the Grove in Shrewsbury. Dolores worked as a secretary for St. Mary's Girls' High School in Manhasset, NY. She was a member of the pet club at Shadow Lake, and a contributing member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and worked as a docent at the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, NY. Dolores loved the New York Yankees, reading, art and music, and telling stories about her family. Her two sons and her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Dolores is survived by her two sons, Kevin (wife Jane), of Lincroft, NJ, James (partner Ashley Morris), of San Diego, CA; her grandchildren, Megan (Malden, MA) and Brian Foran (Arlington, VA); and her brother, Patrick Andretta of Mineola, NY. She is also survived by Raina, her beloved cat and constant companion for the last two years. Dolores was a timeless classic who left a mark on all who knew her. Dolores was extremely grateful for the care she received at Brighton Gardens from the many aides, staff and nurses who tended to her in her final year, especially her favorite aide, Andrea, who went above and beyond to make her difficult days more bearable. Dolores' hope was that she would dance with Fred Astaire in heaven, and we are hopeful that she's enjoying that dance.

Dolores was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Andrew Foran in 1975 and Duncan McGilvray in 1994, and by her parents, Julia and Thomas Andretta.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 from 5-8 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, December 22, 2017 at 8:30 am at the funeral home. A Funeral Liturgy will be offered Friday, December 22 at 10 am at St. Benedict's RC Church, Bethany Rd., Holmdel. Burial will follow at Long Island National Cemetery, NY.
