Domenick E. Galione

AGE: 91 • Lakehurst

Dominick E. Galione, age 91, of Lakehurst, passed away Friday, October 21, 2011 at his home. Dom was born in Newark, NJ, December 19, 1919. The son of Raffaele & Genevra (Attanasio) Galione, he grew up in Newark and attended East Side High School. Dom joined the Civilian Conversation Corp. in 1938 and worked to create Highpoint Park in northern New Jersey. He joined the US Army Air Corp in August of 1940. Before deploying overseas, he was flight engineer on the B-17 heavy bomber. Stationed in India during 1944-1945, Dom flew missions as flight engineer on a B-25 medium bomber throughout China and Burma as well. In 1947, Dom joined the NJ Air National Guard and was assigned to the 119th Observation Squadron, which at the time was based at Newark Airport. On March 28, 1948, Dom married Victoria M. Tremarco also from Newark. Dom was called to serve his country again for both Korea and Viet Nam. Dom was a member of the 177th Fighter Wing, NJ Air National Guard service as Superintendent of the Jet Engine shop from 1958 until his retirement in 1979. He was a life member of the VFW, the American Legion and Toms River Elks. Dom was one of the founding members of the Ocean County Association for Retarded Children. He was an avid recreational vehicle enthusiast and traveled extensively throughout the country with Vicky, his wife of 63 years. Dom was predeceased by his parents and his beloved daughter Roseanne. Survivors include his wife, Victoria M. Galione, Lakehurst; a brother, Ralph Galione, Bloomfield, NJ; his sons, Dominick P. Galione & Gerard P. Galione, Toms River, NJ; 8 Grandchildren; Gerard, Bernadette, David, Danny, Nicole, Andrea & Nicholas. Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at "The Family Owned" Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, 412 Main Street, Toms River, NJ 08753. A Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Lakewood, NJ.
