AGE: 90 • Beachwood

Dominick LaFranca, 90, of Beachwood, died peacefully on December 17, 2016 with loving family at his side. Born and raised in Port Richmond section of Staten Island, he has lived in Beachwood for many years. Mr. LaFranca was employed with the New York City Department of Sanitation and had received several awards form the City for his diligent work and for saving a family from a house fire. He later served as sexton in home Parish St. Theresa's Church in Staten Island. Dominick was very active with baseball and boating. He was an avid Yankee fan and was invited to their tryouts in 1948. He served as umpire for baseball and softball, refereed in basketball, loved fishing and crabbing. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. Also, he was a member of the VFW Post #9503 of Berkeley Township.

He is predeceased by his son Dominick, his granddaughter Kelly, and his siblings, Joseph and Francis.

Surviving are; his wife of 66 years Veronica; four children, Thomas, Charles, Edward and his wife Susan, and RoseMary Cassissa and husband Joseph; daughter-n-law Linda Stefanski and her husband John; eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and his brother Peter.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Dec. 21st, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Atlantic City Blvd., Bayville. Funeral Mass will be Thursday at 9:30am in St. Barnabas Church, 33 Woodland Rd. Bayville. Burial will follow to St. Peter Cemetery, Staten Island. In lieu of flowers, donations to American Cancer or Alzheimer's, would be appreciated.
