Donald Alfred Anderson

Spring Lake - Donald Alfred Anderson, 88, of Spring Lake, NJ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on August 8th, 2018.

Donald was born in Englewood, NJ on June 13, 1930, to loving parents Harold and Florence Anderson. He grew up in Teaneck and Alpine, NJ surrounded by a close-knit extended Anderson family and life-long friends from the Englewood School for Boys, where he graduated in 1948. He continued his education at Bucknell University where he graduated B.S.: Commerce/Finance in 1953. At Bucknell, Don met his future bride and love of his life Amelia Joan Abrams.

Don married Amy on January 23, 1954 at The Christ Church in New York City and celebrated their nuptials at The Plaza Hotel. Immediately after, Don was deployed to Korea where he served his country as First Lieutenant, Corp of Engineers in The United States Army, from which he received an Honorable Discharge.

Upon his return home Don embarked on a long and rewarding career in banking. From 1955 to 1985, Don rose thru the ranks at Citibank N.A., where he lastly was Vice-President of Private Banking. Retiring from banking, Don started Anderson Wright Associates with his wife, placing professionals in the banking and pharmaceutical industries.

For most of his professional life, Don resided in Englewood, NJ, where he raised two sons. He was a member of The Glenn Goin Club in Alpine, NJ, The Englewood Men's Club, The Englewood Field Club and Knickerbocker Country Club in Tenafly, NJ.

After Englewood, Don and Amy moved permanently to Spring Lake, NJ, where he had vacationed since his teen years. He was a member of the Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club where he enjoyed dancing with Amy on Saturday nights prior to her passing in 2015, playing tennis and getting together with family and close friends. He cherished the club and was a Board Member from 2008 - 2010.

Don grew into an avid cyclist in Spring Lake where he converted many friends into the sport and his many years of cycling included several MS 150 Rides and a standard 30-mile ride on his 80th birthday. Prior to cycling, Don was an early runner, or "jogger" as they were called in the mid 70s. He was an expert skier and enjoyed paddle tennis in winter months.

Don was a member of the Coral Gables Croquet Club, for which he served as a Board Member from 2004 - 2006 and President from 2006 - 2007. He respected the particular challenges of this sport and admired the social member base.

Donald Anderson could be best described as a genuine, charming and unassuming individual who expressed a sincere interest in his friends. He could always be relied on for simple yet poignant observations or advice and he made a positive impression on an ever growing body of friends young and old his entire life.

Not one for boasting accomplishments, Don did hold a large amount of pride in the care he took of his wife Amy, who suffered a 10-year decline with Alzheimer's Disease. He also expressed great pride in his sons, their wives and his two granddaughters.

Don is survived by his sons, Jeffrey(Deborah) of Salt Lake City and Christopher(Adrienne) of Englewood, NJ, and his two granddaughters, Katherine (Katie) and Amelia (Amy). Don was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Spring Lake, New Jersey on Friday, August 17th, at 11:00 A.M., preceded by a visitation at 10:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the , or the : Friends may leave condolences at
